San Bernardino County Fire Safety Ordinances

Tree Maintenance:

Trim tree limbs within 6 feet of the ground for trees taller than 12 feet, and remove any branches that are less than 10 feet from chimneys or stovepipes. Trees within 30 feet of structures (with a trunk less than 4 inches in diameter) must be spaced at least 10 feet from other trees.

Shrub Management:

Remove high-energy-release shrubs such as Manzanita, Sage, Juniper, and Ironwood if they are within 15 feet of structures. Shrubs should be spaced at least twice the height of the tallest shrub to prevent fire spread. Ensure all dead branches, leaves, and vegetation around shrubs are cleared, especially those within 100 feet of structures.

Ground Clearance:

Remove grass over 4 inches in height and dead vegetation under trees and shrubs. Clear any pine needles, leaf litter, or mulch on the ground over 2 inches in depth.

Additional Requirements:

Ensure combustible waste, leaves, and debris are properly disposed of. Remove all flammable vegetation within 10 feet of roads and structures.
